Obituary for Lynda Joyce van Hiel (Gibson)

On Tuesday, January 3, 2023, Lynda (nee Gibson) was Promoted to Glory from Margaret’s Place Hospice in Dundas. Lynda, was the beloved wife of Otto for 54 years and the beloved mother of Krista Shaler, Pieter (Desirée) van Hiel, and Marianneke “Anney”(Craig) Summerfield, all of Hamilton. Survived by her loving grandchildren Ellis and Claire (and their mother, Erin Sewell), Sofie, and Jack. Also survived by her sister Carole Barker, brother Don and Rita Gibson, and Linda Gibson as well as many nieces, nephews, and close friends. Predeceased by her parents Percy and Eva Gibson as well as brother, Doug Gibson. Regardless of the roles she played in her life (nurse, pastor, counsellor), Lynda always served God by sharing His love with others and created community wherever she went, even in her final days. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Margaret’s Place as well as the nurses at Juravinski ODS for all their ongoing support and care. Following cremation, a Service to celebrate the life of Lynda will be held at The Salvation Army Mountain Citadel, 835 Stone Church Rd E, Hamilton on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 10:00 a.m followed by a reception. In memory of Lynda, donations to Margaret’s Place , The Salvation Army Mountain Citadel Youth Program, or Voice of the Martyrs Canada would be appreciated.
