Obituary for William Gamble "Bill" Wilson

Died peacefully in his ninety-ninth year with family by his side after a long and full life.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Faith Wilson (nee Rawlin) of 69 years of Simcoe, Ontario. Loving father to Constance Wesley (David) of Peterborough, Margaret Jamieson (Chris) and Brad Wilson of Hamilton and Todd Wilson (2016) of Port Dover. Cherished grandfather of Susannah Wesley (Mark), Gwendolyn Jamieson (Jesse), Samuel Wesley (Catrina), Wesley Jamieson (Luisa), Rebecca Wesley (Derek), Anne Jamieson (Jemil) and Bridget Liang (Tristan); and great grandfather to Eli, Paul, Eloise, Ophelia, Charles, Desmond, Apollo, Caitlin, Ella, Miles, Gabriel, Emma, Maximilian and Elizabeth whom he loved dearly and took great pride in. Fondly remembered for providing treats and slipping small handfuls of spending money to his grandchildren. Greatly appreciated brother-in-law of Kathryn Rawlin and Alice Rawlin, and uncle to numerous loving nieces and nephews.

A long-time resident of Simcoe, Bill started his working life as a delivery boy for Jacksons Drugstore (telegraph office and decorating depot) ferrying prescriptions, telegrams, cans of paint and rolls of wallpaper around the town on his bicycle. After working first as a bobbin boy and then a weaver at the Brook Woollen Mill, Bill enlisted, at age eighteen, in the Canadian Navy during WWII. Courageously, he saw action on corvettes in the perilous waters of the north Atlantic for the last three years of the war. Bill was an employee of the American Can Company for many years, starting work in the shipping department and eventually becoming plant manager and head office executive. Bill was an avid golfer and had a sense of humour that was enjoyed by many and never left him even in his last days.

A heartfelt thanks to all Rose Court staff at Wentworth Lodge in Hamilton for their kindness and care of Bill. It will be remembered by family and added dignity to his last days.
